RACING

Currently, we are actively campaigning three road racers, two flat trackers, and one LSR bike. Ryan Ambrose and Jerrett Martin are our riders for road racing and flat tracking. Ryan is a three time AMA vintage road racing champion, AHRMA sportsmen champion, as well as having set multiple land speed records on Big D Cycle built machines.  Jerrett is in his first full year of racing, and has stood on the podium multiple times, but has yet to be on the top step. Below there is some basic info and pictures on our active racing machines. Not pictured is the newest addition, a trackmaster Yamaha 360. We have other retired machines around the shop that have paid their dues and been put up for display. Be sure to stop by and check them out!

If you would like to contribute to the Big D Racing funds, you can do so with the button below. All funds received are used for race purposes only. Your donations help buy gas, pay entry fees, and purchase tires. This money does not go to Big D Cycle, but instead goes directly to a personal bank account setup for the race team. Any amount is appreciated, thanks for all your support! If you would like for us to run your company stickers, please inquire about making a donation.

THE BIKES

Sportsmen 750

A 750 Triumph on steroids, this bike has more wins then we can remember and multiple championship victories.  This is the “A” bike in the stable; all the best parts have found their way onto this bike.  Some prominent features are Custom M4 exhausts with top secret “turbo tubes”, a de-raked and strengthened T-140 frame built by Ed Mabry, a top of the line Big D motor, Belt Drive, and heavily modified racing suspension components. This machine has proven itself to be the best Triumph twin on the track in America.  Ryan regularly beats much more modern bikes while racing the sportsmen.

T-130

This is the newest addition to the road racing fleet. This bike has a T-140 left hand shift bottom end, with an old style 650 top end that has been bumped to 750cc. This Frankenstein motor sits in a 1963 T-120 frame that has not been modified. The front end is off a 1970 T-120 and features the twin leading shoe front brake from the same year model.  The rear brake has been relocated to the right side, and had the sprocket teeth machine off. The rear wheel has a Barnes quick-change set up for faster gearing changes, and also allows for a left hand shift bottom end to be used.  This bike was built with parts we had available at the shop for Jerrett to compete in BEARS, Classic 60’s, and sportsmen. It has a little bit of everything, hence the T-130 name.

RJ Mabry T-150

This bike is a former Team Texas Triumph Ed Mabry record holder.  It was pulled from Ed’s attic so that it could be modernized and ran at Bonneville once again. This time around it is getting a turbo charged 750 triple with modern fuel injection and engine management systems. The original fairing will be hung up in favor of a much more modern and aerodynamic set up, that has already been salt proven. This bike went 203mph on the salt before, back then it was a 1000cc. We are shooting for 200mph with a 750cc setup. This bike was purchased and saved by Randy Johnson; he will also be the rider for the bike. Randy also owns the Norton commando we set production class records with last year.

Trackmaster 750

This bike was originally built and tuned by Les Edwards from Cycle Imports in California. Les built bikes for some pretty famous riders back in the 60’s/70’s. This particular bike was ridden by Jim Odom during the 1971 season, and is featured in the movie “On Any Sunday”. This bike with about 10 other former AMA bikes were purchased from Les’s family and brought back to the shop. We took time and care to put this bike back like the way it was in 1971, without re-plating the frame or doing any paint work. The bike now belongs to a private collector, but Ryan will be racing it in the near future. The bike was restored with the intentions of entering the AMA vintage dirt track event at Mid-Ohio, but the race was rained out this year. We look forward to getting out on track with this bike.

The SV650

The SV has been everyone’s trainer bike. It has been going since 2001, and has survived many crashes, mishaps, and mechanicals. It began its life as the original RPM Cycle endurance team bike, but then founds itself in the hands of many riders through the years in sprint races. Nothing too fancy here, the bike is a stock machine. The SV is an excellent hand me down bike, and Jerrett is currently campaigning superstock D and formula 2 in the CMRA on this bike.
